Behavioral Resources

Need help with your furry friend? Behavioral issues are one of the number one reasons that pets are surrendered to shelters, making up a whopping 47% according to the ASPCA's National Rehoming Survey. If you are having issues with your pet that include (but are not limited to) aggression, destruction of property, inappropriate elimination/marking* and separation anxiety, please visit the links below and find a trainer near you. We have also included resources for financial assistance if paying for a trainer is an issue. As with all behavioral issues, a trip to the vet is necessary before finding a trainer to rule out any underlying medical issues.

* Inappropriate elimination may be a sign of a medical issue such as a urinary tract or bladder infection. "Marking" by male dogs can be curbed with neutering. Escaping is also characteristic of intact animals, with males having a tendency to roam and females pursuing mates when in heat. Please visit our veterinary & low cost spay/neuter resources page here for help.
